Biomass fuel is not renewable resource which means it’s not biodegradable. Once you use it by burning the energy or fuel, it’s gone, you have used it. You would thinkthat biomass is renewable but it’s not, there is just so much of it. The availability of biomass is huge because there is so much in Canada, there's lots of trees and land to plant the plants and trees. Biomass is decreasing though because when you burn wood or pretty much anything, the biomass is gone. It’s also part of the carbon cycle so there is another way of using Biomass. The bad thing about Biomass is that it is a sign of global warming. Written by Theo | ![]() In this diagram, it shows the percentage of availability for the different biomass products (the higher the percentage, the more available the product is.) This chart shows that agricultrual crop biomass and forestry biomass are the biggest sources of biomass to burn for energy/electricity. Agricultural Crops Biomass are things like grasses and plants that are grown specifically for biomass. The lowest sources of biomass are Municipal Organic Waste (The natural waste that our community throws away) and Animal Manure. |
